  • What is "extract file mode"? Why do you think you need to install gnucash from anywhere other than the official Ubuntu repository? – steeldriver May 16 '18 at 15:12

  • There is no Configure folder, but there does appear to be a configure script as well as a README and an INSTALL file. Did you successfully unpack the tar.bz2 archive? – steeldriver May 16 '18 at 15:25
