But of a noob with Ubuntu so bear with me.

I have my local WinServer’s IP in my NICs DNS config but it isn’t working. Ping yahoo.com -> Can’t find server

nslookup yahoo.com winserverip works

/run/resolv.conf has nameserver 127.0.1.1 listed I changed that to Nameserver winserverip And I was able to resolve domains. Resolv.conf warns you at the top that the changes in this file will be overwritten.

So what’s changing resolv.conf to point to a loop back up?

Thanks, -John

  • If you put your entries in /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/original then resolvconf -u will update them into /etc/resolv.conf automatically. – Terrance Apr 17 '18 at 23:52
