I have a dual boot HP Laptop, with Ubuntu 16.04 and Windows 10. While wifi works fine in Windows 10, wireless option is not available in Ubuntu. I have disabled Secure Boot, and tried various solutions provided in this forum. None is working.

Output of sudo iwlist scan is:

eno1 Interface doesn't support scanning.
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.

The output of:

wget -N -t 5 -T 10 https://github.com/UbuntuForums/wireless-info/raw/master/wireless-info && chmod +x wireless-info && ./wireless-info

is in this link: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/3tqfgVShtB/

Any help will be much appreciated.

  • Please do sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade to install updates, reboot and run the wireless script again, post new results – Jeremy31 Mar 5 '18 at 11:35
  • @Jeremy, Here's the output after running the 3 commands: paste.ubuntu.com/p/8n4tMv59N5 Thanks in advance! Ritu – Rituparna Mar 7 '18 at 6:05

With a temporary working internet connection by ethernet, tethered or whatever means possible, open a terminal and do:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install build-essential dkms git
git clone -b 4.10-down https://github.com/jeremyb31/rtl8723de.git
sudo dkms add ./rtl8723de
sudo dkms build rtl8723de/
sudo dkms install rtl8723de/
sudo modprobe 8723de

Your wireless should now be working.

  • After running "sudo modprobe 8723de", I am getting this message: modprobe: FATAL: Module 8723de not found in directory /lib/modules/4.10.0-42-generic – Rituparna Mar 7 '18 at 4:23
  • Wifi is working now! I used "git clone github.com/jeremyb31/rtl8723de.git" and the rest as per your instructions. Thanks! – Rituparna Mar 7 '18 at 11:31
