This is a problem I've had with multiple distros over the years. Most recently, with Kubuntu, I've noticed that many of the features and software that the specs on the website outline are not included or not active upon installation of the OS. Does anyone know why this always seems to be the case? It's so bad that when I try to use community help instructions, etc, it's of no use because the items the help docs refer to don't exist on my system.

Could you give some examples of software "not included". Are you aware of how to install supported software via Software Center ? – Soren A Mar 3 '18 at 20:11

Sometimes it is because documentation refers to a different, older version. The community just doesn't have the resources to keep up with bi-annual release cycle and lots of choices. – mikewhatever Mar 3 '18 at 20:16
  • Please provide a list of the "many of the features and software that the specs on the website outline". – waltinator Mar 3 '18 at 23:04
  • kubuntu.org/feature-tour for example mentions Telepathy which is absent from the install. Also basic functionality like enabling alternate language keyboard layouts appears absent. Even after following the instructions here askubuntu.com/questions/59081/… there seems to be no way to actually set up the input method. The list could go on and on. The inability to change the time format from 12-hr to 24-hr. – cyber dharma Mar 8 '18 at 2:07
  • Multiple menu items to control the same feature creating conflicts with the system. It would be nice if Kubuntu would be well-integrated upon first launch rather than requiring endless tweaking and fixing broken and buggy apps. Missing email client. Multiple chat/IM apps yet none with ability to directly set up major accounts like facebook chat google etc. Just curious if anyone else has these problems. – cyber dharma Mar 8 '18 at 2:08
