I am running a Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS. I already have a user with name Joan which has a home directory under /media/Joan/home/. I created a new user with name Doe using adduser command. There was only one directory with name Joan and it didn't create a directory under /media/. There's only one I don't get it. Thank you in advance.

  • Unless you've modified your /etc/adduser.conf file, users' home directories would usually be created under /home, rather than /media – steeldriver Feb 3 '18 at 3:31
  • @steeldriver Can you tell me what to add in /etc/adduser.conf ? – Joan Doe Feb 3 '18 at 3:35
  • I don't recommend using /media for users' home directories (it is intended as a place to mount removable media), but if you really want that to be the default, the parameter to change would be DHOME I think - see man adduser.conf – steeldriver Feb 3 '18 at 13:51
