I installed Lubuntu, then after some time I installed xubuntu-desktop and now I want to remove the previous desktop. I tried lxde and lubuntu-desktop, but one was already removed and the other wasn't found, respectively.

I, therefore, still have lx programs installed, and they are:

lxappearance lxqt-session
lxclipboard lxrandr
lxhotkey lxsession
lxinput lxsession-db
lxlauncher lxsession-default
lxlock lxsession-default-terminal
lxpanel lxsession-logout
lxpanelctl lxsession-xdg-autostart
lxpolkit lxshortcut
lxqt-config-session lxtask
lxqt-leave lxterm
lxqt-policykit-agent lxterminal

But I'm afraid to do something. What could be removed to completely erase the Lubuntu's original desktop environment?

  • What commands have you used already in an attempt to remove Lubuntu and install Xubuntu? – Rex Feb 2 '18 at 15:44
  • I tried to remove lubuntu-desktop and lxde to remove Lubuntu desktop, and xubuntu-desktop to install Xubuntu – gamofe Feb 5 '18 at 1:53
  • So, what do I need to do? – gamofe Feb 6 '18 at 1:28

But as you can see Lubuntu uses some XFCE4 programs. That is why I asked you what commands you had already used to remove Lubuntu and install Xubuntu.

There is also Completely Remove LXDE/Lubuntu Desktop Environment

  • I cannot remove the desktop itself by running command to delete lxde or lubuntu-desktop as I have seen in other solutions because it cannot be found. – gamofe Feb 6 '18 at 5:41
  • Did you already remove something that removes the metapackage. For example if you had run sudo apt remove leafpad because you laready had mousepad the xfce text editior you would then remove lubuntu-desktop and if you installed lubuntu-desktop the lxde metapackage which gives the upstream lxde packages. Also Rex that command is not updated for the latest version of lubuntu and I have seen that page before but it is not up to date. Catfish is not included in lubuntu by default since pcmanfm gained the ability to search for files. – ianorlin Mar 21 '18 at 18:49
