I am using a dual boot system. Windows 7 and Ubuntu 14.04 on My Dell Inspiron 1510 (Core [email protected], 4GB RAM)

When I use Ubuntu it is far more hot compared to Windows 7.

I just checked on both OSes when normal applications like Chrome are running.

I don't know about Win7 as I don't own one, but Ubuntu's Desktop Environment (=DE) "Unity" looks pretty nice but costs very much resources. What CPU, RAM, Graphics do you have? If they are too weak this could be the cause for the heat. Does everything run fluently or are there small "hangs" as if the pc is too busy? If this was the cause, you could try installing another DE such as xfce or lxde that needs less resources. Could also be that Ubuntu has different settings for power management, fan control etc., but I don't know about this. Greetings.
