While the internal speakers work fine, no sound comes from the external speakers when i plug the jack in.

I've tried every possible solution, adjusting through alsamixer and gnome-mixer, editing alsa-base.conf, but no luck so far, so I had to post here.

aplay -a | grep card

card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC270 Analog [ALC270 Analog]
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]

alsa-base.conf

I added the last two lines, but that made no change whatsoever. Please help me troubleshoot :-) I'm a newbie, so be gentle :-D

Problem solved.

Simply close the lid with the speakers plugged into the laptop and open it up, or boot up with the jack already plugged.
