I have bought a new laptop Asus tuf.
Below is config for same:

  • ASUS TUF FX505DY-BQ002T 15.6-inch FHD Gaming Laptop
  • AMD Ryzen 5-3550H/8GB
  • 1TB HDD
  • Windows 10
  • Radeon RX 560X 4GB Graphics
  • 2.20 Kg

After dual boot when I choose Ubuntu and tried login, Ubuntu freezes and doesn't show login screen. I did Alt+F2 and logged in using grub and checked system logs using journalctl -b and got an error

Error was "gLib: g_child_watch_add_full: assertion 'pid > 0' failed

Can someone please help. I have tried all of the solutions I could find using Google, but nothing seems to work.

I want to buy this. Please try other distro. However,I think it is not graphics problem.Amdgpu has full support for Linux and it's GPUs and there is no need to disable kms

Please see this: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/470351/rx-560x-slower-than-integrated-vega-gpu-on-fedora-28

The issue is with kernel not supporting GPU but has been solved in latest kernel(5.0) Since you are using Ubuntu (not latest kernel I assume) You cannot run using Dedicated GPU.

So,you must choose distro with latest kernel and Manjari is the option I recommend .Please try and reply

Hope this helps....
