On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions
  • signed the Ubuntu Code of Conduct, 2.0, and link to your Launchpad.net page showing you have signed.

We encourage everyone who has contributed to the success of Ask Ubuntu through all moderation tasks - flagging, editing, Meta Q&A, chat discussions etc. to put their names forward.

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Nominees, please consider placing your answers to questions you deem helpful to your nomination inside your Nomination post.

I have been an AskUbuntu member for some years and have benefitted a lot from this community.
I have also helped in the little way I could.

I will like to nominate myself as a candidate for the moderator election since I believe to have accumulated some experience with a few moderations tasks, and I'm open to learning more.

I have signed the Ubuntu Code of Conduct and answered The Questions.

About me?

I am working into IT for around 21 years. Using Linux since 1996(Slackware Linux). Worked with other flavors of Linux and Unix since then. Computer Science graduate from Government Engineering College Bhopal India(full scholarship). Working as a IT Architect in Bigdata/Analytics with Java/JEE background. My profile at LinkedIn.

I like to help others. Also like to debug the issues with passion. Active on other stack overflow forums. Also a moderator at JavaRanch. Have a diversified experience which helps me to solve problems faster. Eager to learn newer things. Good in terms of understanding what somebody might be thinking when they expressed/wrote it. I hope I will be good moderator at askubuntu and help all the participants in best possible manner.

I've learned a lot from here. And I tried to give back as much as I could. And I'm happy with what I've already done. For me, this is an opportunity to do something more...

I'm almost always around, Eager to get involved and to help. I also have experience in managing similar communities (mostly forums) in the past.

I've got almost a decade of experience in running and managing GNU/Linux distributions. Occasionally I teach GNU/Linux and I love it. I also studied software engineering and Artificial Intelligence in university if you're interested to know.

I am a student of Computer Science and I am very active on various forums on internet. So I will be a good resource as moderator.I have faced a lot of problems on stackoverflow when I used to post question most of my questions were blocked and deleted because they were too novice. But the problem is how do you decide what is the use of a new born baby. So I understand the problems faced by new users. Hey!!! I'm Kulfy, a pug who is as sweet as Kulfi. I joined the party in April 2018 and visited the site for ~783 days doing random stuffs everyday. I started here as an questioner and developed interest in participating not just by asking. By profession, I lurk here and there in search of food. Everyday I learn new things from this user and I admire their work.

Feel free to visit my main profile and comment why you think pugs are cute.

I have signed Ubuntu Code of Conduct and posted answers to the election questionnaire.

This community has done so much for me and I would be so happy to give back a little bit by becoming a moderator.

I am on board with what we are trying to do here and, although stuff keeps changing, I am fairly familiar with how SE sites work, and our community's policies and conventions.

I have been around for a while, which means I have the great advantage of having made many of the available mistakes at least once.

I see my work here as my contribution to Linux, so it's extra important to me for that reason.

I have signed the Ubuntu Code of Conduct.

And also answered those questions.
