I am new to Ubuntu. When trying to open Matlab I get a Permission Denied response. How can I fix this?

1cqxdz1:~> /usr/local/MATLAB/R2013b/bin
/usr/local/MATLAB/R2013b/bin: Permission denied.

  • Is there a specific one of those files that I need to change the permissions for? (all the -r--r--r etc are the read/write/execute permissions, right?)

Turned out I need to instead type in:

/usr/local/MATLAB/R2013b/bin/matlab &

Thanks @Harris

I think you should do:

sudo matlab

Instead of:

matlab

No, you actually shouldn't do that. Dec 3, 2015 at 0:32
