I have just had an USB numpad to use with my Xubuntu 15.04

The pad has a "Num lock" button with the LED going on/off when pressed, but the number (0-9) or sign (.+-/*, ENTER, TAB) keys don't produce anything visible on the screen.

I prepared some input to help investigate. Device 009 in lsusb:

Two comments:

  • The line [ 599.209822] usb 1-3: USB disconnect, device number 3 seems to show that the numpad gets disconnected
  • The last 4 lines seem to connect the numpad as a keyboard first and then as a mouse

A test with xev shows that some keys generate on event:

Other facts:

  • Under [Ctrl][Alt][F1], nothing appears when testing with showkey --scancodes
  • The numpad appears in the list of devices in Settings > Mouse and Pointing Devices > Devices. I deactivated it there.
  • I also deactivated it in Settings > Accessibility > Mouse
  • The numpad does not work either in boot
