I was introduced to Ubuntu in 2006. My Windows XP operating system tanked while I was working on an archaeological dig, and since I was unable to obtain another Windows operating system CD, I decided to give Ubuntu a shot. That was the best computer crash I ever experienced. I couldn't believe an open source system that let me look at all its innards would work as well as it did, and then it was free on top of that.
