On daily basis I deploy, maintain and support one of the largest CDNs in the world. I enjoy working on projects involving automation, monitoring, analysing and tweaking *nix system performance, troubleshooting networks, tinkering with virtualisation, etc.

comment How to automatically restart Tomcat7 on system reboots?
I doubt the shell script above could ever cause such an error. Please do some troubleshooting first.

comment How do I get terminals to not have the gap when I snap them to corners?
@Mateo it was just a guess. I don't use Unity ;)

The gap looks like a border. I don't want to try to convince you that you really need an apple when you say you want an orange and add it as an answer but: have you considered switching to a tiling window manager? I recently migrated to i3, disabled all borders (I could do this selectively as well) and it's simple, bloat-free, customisable, etc. Screenshot - imgur.com/0FlPUmP i3wm.org

comment 14.04 whole disk encryption can I have multiple passphrases or revoke a passphrase
Is it only going to hold user data or is it going to be used to boot Linux from it as well? What's the use case you're trying to address?

Sure. As you can see this list is separated with a colon. Just add one more colon and another directory. Please mark the answer as accepted if this works for you.

I've read the instructions in the answer you linked to and they're what I'd typically do to resolve this. Which part didn't work?

comment A command to list all users? And how to add, delete, modify users?
It's useful to remember that getent doesn't just print the output of users in /etc/passwd but all users in all configured userdb backends on a given system, whether it's /etc/passwd or LDAP, etc.

comment Dedicated Server - Dual Hard Drives Problem
No worries. Make sure you don't forget that with raid0 if you lose one disk, the whole dataset is gone. Ensure you have proper and regular backups if downtime isn't an issue in your environment. PS. could you mark my response as the answer if you're happy with it? Thanks!

Were you able to enter the document root directory as the user that the webserver runs as (typically www-data)?

I think their pretty inexperienced tech is correct, thinking that the 'pretty inexperienced' customer isn't configuring the connection correctly ;)

comment Error compiling with make
It doesn't matter - all apt-cache build-dep does is install the build prerequisites for the package of your choice. In this case by installing just libssl-dev, you've completed this step manually. For such trivial cases it's simple but sometimes you might spend much more time trying to figure out what libraries are needed for your code to compile.

Thanks, remember the build-dep - it can sometimes save you a lot of time :)

No worries, could you join the chat channel chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/8599/jordan ? I feel this would be quickly solved there if you're available. I'll be checking it about every 10 minutes so stick around ;)

comment Is there a way I can transfer all my web sites on localhost to a new computer?
If you read my answer again, you'll find that I wrote "Other files under /etc/apache2 that you've made modifications to", which is quite different from just "other files under [...]". I have no way of knowing which files you've made modifications to so it's reasonable to expect you know which ones you need to copy over. And I'd replace "lashing out" with stating the fact - I've found that link with the first query I used. I would have been more understanding if it wasn't for your sarcastic 'cute'. Over and out.
