comment Determinate if a file is already opened
Hah, did you not see me cringe while I was writing that? :) That's exactly what I thought when I asked for a use-case since jumping through such hoops is probably completely avoidable.

comment How to bypass and allow particular sites from squid to iptables
Please update your question instead of adding this as a comment if you can to preserve formatting. And BTW - these are not rules - these are commands. Rules are listed for instance with iptables -vL INPUT -n; iptables -t nat -vL -n

Could you update your answer with this output so that formatting is preserved?

comment Delete a file, from a USB ubuntu boot
Glad you sorted this out. @Jamie - I noticed something you might have missed earlier and thought I'd mention it, so that you don't do it in the future :) sudo echo -n > /some/file - you do realise that only echo will be run as root and the STDOUT of that echo command will be redirected to the /some/file BUT: as your regular user, which may or may not have permissions to write to that file? Good example: sudo echo blah > /etc/somefile

comment SPAMHaus/ CBL Blocking List:: UNIX System (Firewall)
You didn't provide any information that could help us help you. Please define what you mean by 'blocking us'. RBLs can block IPs, subnets, etc. Does it block your public IP address? What's using this IP address, who do you share it with, what services do you have enabled to be accessed on this IP address, and other answers would be helpful here.

@solsTice: I could not resist but the statement that's vague is your last sentence that pretends to be a statement but ends with question marks :) Quite a popular usage these days but annoying and incorrect.

comment lvm reporting wrong size after gparted expansion - Ubuntu 14.01
I can't see any attachments - maybe just show the configuration of your volume group, logical volumes, partitioning and free space instead of a screenshot. You could indicate what you currently have and what was your expected result.

In addition to what others have written above, I suggest that you also let us know what exactly is your use case. This would allow us to better understand the problem and either help you get what you need or suggest a more suitable solution.

comment Integration multiple internet connections ISPUnity vs Ubuntu Bonding
Bonding is something completely unrelated to what you're trying to achieve, given the details.

comment How do I make this general form into a standard form hyperbola?
This should work: goo.gl/OvIvZA (using the right SE site, relevant to the subject is always a good start).

comment fix MBR of disk image file
A word of advice - don't tell us the story of your life, focus on describing problems as briefly as possible with just the required information. This question has so much noise that I'm not surprised most of us just skip it.

comment Port forwarding to local server
I've updated my answer. Also in your case the iptables command was a bit redundant, since your INPUT chain already has a default policy of ACCEPT and no DROP or REJECT rules, so effectively everything's allowed.

comment How can I completely reset wifi settings?
What would this order achieve here? I want to remove all connections and have Network Manager re-read its configuration. Killing NM before altering its configuration is a no-op.

comment Stacking multiple for in commands
First of all, do yourself (and others) a favour and put your one liners in a script and use proper indentation. It improves clarity, allows making changes and re-testing much easier.

I wish one day people who don't have an answer could just remain silent instead of speculating whether someone does or doesn't need what they're asking for...

comment Ethernet Lights Not On When Cable Connected And Not Working
First thing to notice is that you don't have a physical link (ethtool's output). There's no point diagnosing anything above this layer before this works. Have you tried connecting this port to another machine's Ethernet port and seeing if you get a link?

Just when I thought I've seen everything... myapp.localhost.com? Did you add an entry for this FQDN in the hosts file? How does this resolve (I somehow doubt you own the localhost.com domain).
