On daily basis I deploy, maintain and support one of the largest CDNs in the world. I enjoy working on projects involving automation, monitoring, analysing and tweaking *nix system performance, troubleshooting networks, tinkering with virtualisation, etc.

comment How to rollback an apt-get upgrade from command line?
Awesome, thanks for the heads up about LVM - I was hoping to hear that since I haven't checked it myself in a while. Btrfs - I've looked into it but after having used ZFS, I'm spoilt :) And I haven't had the time to test btrfs yet - but I definitely will :)

Sure, of course it applies to other systems that interact with each other. With regards to securing services - to do so, you first need to understand the basics. If you really intend to run such an MTA you should look at the list of available choices, choose one that's packaged (ideally) for your distribution and has the features you want and that you feel you'd be comfortable working with. And then read the friendly manual, documentation, etc. which most likely explains how to test it and verify whether it's appropriately secured. If I had to recommend one to you - I'd say Postfix.

It looks to me that you're trying to run a publicly accessible service which interacts with other servers while not willing to spend time learning about it and even much less to administer it. What will you do when it gets abused? How will you troubleshoot it without knowing rudimentary details about its operation? This is one of those things that should be left to a *nix admin who knows what they're doing.

Take a look at Chris Carter's comment underneath your question and see if this affects you. Also printing the output of apt-cache policy ia32-libs-multiarch and the contents of /etc/apt/sources.list and /etc/apt/sources.list.d would be helpful.

Didn't check earlier - googleearth-package package is only a set of scripts to make a deb package out of a Google Earth tarball which isn't necessary since Google provides a native package for Ubuntu now.

That point wasn't strictly about ia32-libs, there's a separate part on it later in my post. Have you found and reinstalled the other broken packages as found by debsums?
