comment How can I repair my PHP installation?
This is a code problem. You have put raw HTML into your <?php ... ?> tag, that obviously can't work. That's literally what the error tells you: Syntax error. Because the interpreter has no idea what to do with this random completely different language in there.

comment xubuntu install from cd on an old laptop
@karatedog Generally speaking, it does not matter when the question was asked. We tend to close as a duplicate of the older one, but if the newer one gained a better answer before being duped, we might as well do it the other way around.

Please don't edit "[SOLVED]" into your question title. Accepting an answer is already enough to mark it as solved.

I'd recommend that you first evaluate whether you actually need such short intervals. There's a reason they are discouraged, after all.

comment Install Unbuntu 13.04 alongside Windows XP Pro - No option
No, you're right, the disk is fully occupied by Windows. And, yes dual-boot is the same as installing alongside. You will need to either resize yoour partitions (which is rather complicated so I'll leave that for someone else to answer), or reinstalling both systems (do prefer to first install Windows, then Ubuntu, though).

comment What do I need to download and how do I install those programs?
@EddieBrewer When that happens, you will need to execute the command as root (that is essentially the admin user). If you're in command-line, prepend sudo or (if installed) gksu to the command you're trying to execute. Then just enter your password when prompted.
