Let me guess: The partitions you're trying to mount belong to another OS?

@Shog9 I believe that launchpad link is in the user profile. (Which should be sufficient, since I'm not seeing any mention of this link being actually required in the nomination post - that would be quite annoying with the character limit.)

@virtualxtc I very much disagree with your second comment. I'm very well aware of how duplicates work. The problem arises when we close hundreds of crap questions as duplicates of multiple questions. We're not managing to close all duplicates to the same target, so there is no use in piling onto that mess - in the worst case even leaving a duplicate that doesn't get closed, or - again - gets closed incorrectly.

@virtualxtc I think I have already addressed most of these things in the meta posts I link to in my nomination. Tech support inherently does not work with the Stack Exchange format - it needs to much information and a back-and-forth with the asker. The SE format is not made for either of those things. It is Canonical that has pushed us into this position over time (by presenting us as tech support), and I very much disagree with those decisions. We need to get people to use their close votes more frequently instead of waiting and letting posts rot, contributing to our low Percent Answered.

So, you're saying the mods we elected last year were less active than expected? And you're now running because you don't think you ... need to be active? I'm sorry, I really can't wrap my head around this.

An option that doesn't want to be an option doesn't really make sense to me. Why would anyone vote for you if you don't intend to be active? Why do you think people would need another option when we have 14 candidates (plus yourself now)?

I most certainly think it is. Not only is everyone open to ask questions such as these, but I feel these are questions that need to be asked. A moderator, especially on a troubled site like ours, will face challenges they need to be prepared for. These questions make candidates consider their position and look further than what they have already incorporated.

@LuísdeSousa I beg to differ. I have already explained that these issues I mentioned are not something I - or any moderator - can directly influence. We can try to motivate people with, say, meta posts, but this still requires the community to be receptive of it. What I can do, and I have also pointed that out already, is take care of the mess that these problems cause. Handle the things the community is, because of the overarching problems, no longer fully able to - closures, flags, getting on top of the new questions, all of these things.

You have very low meta activity and helpful flag count - How come? Speaking of that low meta activity - it appears your contributions have been met with disagreement. Why do you think you would make a good moderator, if your contributions don't align with the community?

AU crumbling has a lot of effects: We get flooded with questions that warrant closing, spam that should be deleted much quicker than it is, users getting turned away from the site - these are the things a moderator can work on. A moderator can't cure the illness, but treat the symptoms. This is mitigation right there.

You have just breached the 10k reputation mark, unlocking access to flag handling. Why do you see the need for yet another step, so quickly, and what do you expect of it?

I honestly don't know. The various attempt from various people over the past year or two - they've all failed and I'm not seeing that change. People tend not to read meta, and changes to the system require lots and lots of pushing on MSO. We can keep trying and trying, but at the end of the day, if people don't receive and acknowledge a call to action, they won't take the action either.

@LuísdeSousa No, no, you might be misunderstanding something here. I don't think I can fix these issues I mentioned. These, again, need heavy community involvement. I do, however, feel that I can help mitigate the problem at hand. And, on top of that, my meta activity might just bring up the important issues and motivate the community to actually fix this. But I certainly don't think I (or, for that matter, the moderator team), can fix these issues on my/their/"our" own.

Now, that issue is two-fold: For one, my tinkering usually is by far not the most efficient way and I don't end up having a proper guide at the end - it's more like a collection of random things that got me to a solution. Not really worthy of a Q&A. Secondly, there is site clutter - almost every time I want to post something I get a nagging feeling that this has got to be a dupe somewhere. It's just usually impossible to wade through pages and pages of questions to find that dupe - despite knowing "there was something like that". That turns me away from asking questions here.

As I noted in my post, the issues Ask Ubuntu currently has cannot be fixed by moderators, only mitigated. Throwing more moderators at the problem is not a long-term solution. On top of that (as the context of that chat discussion also reveals) we ideally wouldn't even "need" more than 9 mods - on a healthy site, the community would moderate itself successfully and active moderators would merely be stepping in for fringe cases - 9 active moderators should very well be able to support a site of our size.

My money is on this bug, yet again (I'm affected by it as well, the description seems to match.) Try installing trusty just to see if it works.

As for having asked not a single question - I tend to solve my problems on my own, or just accept them as they are. Very rarely do I feel the need to ask someone else (even less so a large community) for help. In the case of Ubuntu, wading through manual pages and tinkering with it has always gotten me to my solution.

Indeed my main site activity is very low. As I have explained in my post: I have left the site roughly nine months ago because AU has been crumbling for a long time and some changes from SE made it very hard for us to steer the site away from that. It simply became very frustrating to watch and be unable to do anything about it.
