I'm a geek who loves Linux. I do my best to help other Linux users, but oftentimes, I'm the one who needs help.

My personal favorite software:

  • Pale Moon (A Firefox fork with a purpose)
  • VLC (Good media player, easy-to-use but decently powerful)
  • XFCE (Desktop environment, decently lightweight but with a great user-experience)
  • 7-Zip (Archiving program with better compression)

I recommend Linux Mint XFCE edition, Ubuntu, or Xubuntu for those interested in getting started with Linux.

comment What's the difference between Google Chrome and/or Chromium? What are the advantages/disadvantages to each?
Chromium may lack the built-in Flash/PDF, but since they run off NPAPI, if you extract them from Chrome, Chromium will happily use them after a bit of configuring. (On Windows, this doesn't matter a whole lot, but while Flash is stopping their Linux builds at 11.2, Google managed to convince Adobe to package updated versions with Chrome.) Anway, it's not a huge point, but I thought it worth noting since none of the answers mentioned it.

Just found out our connection is 6 Mbit. This makes the wireless adapters seem even wore pathetic.

comment How to minimize PyBitmessage to the system tray?
Thanks! I thought I must have been doing something wrong; I didn't think to check the taskbar icon itself -_-
