How can Ubuntu detect some mobile devices that debian doesn't? I suppose it may have something to do with Ubuntu's more lax approach to the whole "Free Software" topic. I'd be willing to bet that there's some proprietary driver that Ubuntu includes that allows it to access your device that Debian doesn't allow. |

Ethernet not detected whatsoever I can't log into chat for some reason, but sudo mii-tool -v says 10 Mbit, Full Duplex, No link. ifup says interface already configured, and the tray icon still says "Ethernet network | device not managed". |

Ethernet not detected whatsoever Running mii-tool while 8139cp was still loaded said it couldn't find interface eth0, but after loading 8139too running mii-tool exited with no output (and no effect.) I've already tried ifup/downing the enterface, and ifup eth0 still doesn't exit cleanly while running 8139too. However, even though the command never exited, I can still close the terminal. mii-tool only exits cleanly after ifup-ing eth0 while running 8139too. So I have no ideas. :/ |

Ethernet not detected whatsoever @grimpitch rmod was an invalid command, but sudo modprobe -r 8139too seemed to work. Adding the module 8139cp didn't fix it, though - the network tray icon now says "no network devices available", and running ifdown and ifup doesn't work - ifup says "could not configure hardware" or something like that. |

What is the difference between ./ and sh to run a script? ha ha, 7 edits and not one person noticed the word "fun" instead of "run". Also fixed a grammar error. |

Can't mount SD-cards in ubuntu, in windows on same machine works fine Okay, try this: Use Windows to back up all the files, then use Gparted to format the card: sudo apt-get install gparted, then open your SD Card in GParted (it's probably going to be /dev/sdb,) go to Device>Create Partition Table, make an msdos table, then create a new fat32 partition in all the free space. Whatever utility formatted the card in the first place (e.g., the Manufacturer, your Camera, You, etc.,) messed up the partition table. Fortunately, GParted is powerful enough to read+format any drive, no matter how corrupted it is (barring physical damage, of course... ;) |

Where does VNC store its logfiles? If you're considering connecting, just to test my "solution", don't. |

Wireless is unusably unstable with my D-Link DWA-160 Wi-Fi adapter! Uugh, when this Wi-Fi adapter either dies or gets replaced, I'm going to dig it a deep grave.. near the septic tank. Then I will dance on its grave. |

Why does Transmission report port as “closed”? @jokerdino I've always wondered: If the Captchas help digitize old books, how do they verify that the answer to the captcha was correct? Or do they only check the one that they already know the answer to, and just trust the user on the actual scanned-in word? |

Why does Transmission report port as “closed”? Biggest "wat" moment of my life: When I was typing the Captcha for this question, I had a typo - the second word was supposed to be "layurt", but I typed "payurt" AND IT POSTED ANYWAY! |
