The solution is to force an unmount of the disk you want to install on BEFORE starting the installation program The command is: sudo umount -l -r -f /dev/sdXX It worked for me both on a boot from the cd image and when I followed a boot solution where the content in the iso is extraced to a partition. Yes I did try to use gparted to prepare the partition first. I formated with ext4.
