comment Sound Problem due to wrong driver installation
@jrg Yes, still, I audio jack does not get recognised still, but the laptop speaker works. Anyway I can fix this. I need to install the proper driver so that It will get identified, but after above mentioned incident, I haven't tried that driver again.

comment Back up /home from a live CD
But, “/home” directory will have hardlinks, softlinks, files and nested directories, a regular copy (cp) or drag and drop may not do the job completely.

Ok, I decided to go as you suggested. Created a ubuntu folder into the home partition, then copied all files from current home directory to this new /homepartion/ubuntu/ next i edited the /etc/fstab to point the new folder as the default /home directory so I wrote /dev/sda10 /home ext4 nodev, nosuid 0 2 at the end. But now the system cannot find the home folder

comment Creating a dedicated grub partition before installing ubuntu
@psusi, The installer never asked whether and not to install grub. And arrange, Yeah It replaced the grub with linux-mint's one and I have corrected it by following the steps.

On the mean time, I installed ubuntu, and haven't defined any partition to be mounted as /boot, so the /boot is inside the file system also. Will the above guide still be valid or I have to ask another question.
