I’m a bioinformatics PhD student at EMBL-EBI and the University of Cambridge but I’m originally from Berlin.

My programming interests span from C++ over .NET and dynamic languages all the way to XHMTL/CSS and R.

I’m mainly working on genomics using high-throughput sequencing data. My thesis is about the regulation and expression of non-coding RNA (especially tRNA) in mammals.

comment How to use “grep” command to find text including subdirectories
@ElliottDarfink That’s using Bash’s history feature! is an event designator. They’re pretty powerful to avoid repetitions. !#:3 references the third token of the command line so far, i.e. ~/bin/ack in this case.

comment Why isn't VLC the default video player?
I don’t see how the last point is relevant since that doesn’t get in the way of normal usage at all. Normal users don’t even necessarily notice that these features exist. The rest is spot-on, however.

comment Why did the command “:(){ :|: & };:” make my system lag so badly I had to reboot?
This answer seems to suggest that rebooting is the only recourse. But in fact this fork bomb can be killed without rebooting, and I’ve actually observed that it doesn’t work properly on some systems anyway (because their spawn limit is set sensibly).

comment Any hope for Unity using ATI Radeon?
That's weird -- I'm using the HD 4670M (Sony Vaio VPCSB) and I'm experiencing the exact same problems as described by the OP.
