comment What is the purpose of the ssl-cert-snakeoil.key
:) I am aware of the work origin and general meaning of snakeoil. In the answer above you say it's created for the snakeoil user and should not be deleted: which is why I thought there was one.

comment Ubuntu Open Ports
+1 for explaining that filtered might can still mean closed. I was already freaking out having those "crazy windows service" ports open on my ubuntu setup. Yet not finding any service/process via top -bn1 nor via netstat -tuandp. Now I feel saver again

Downvote very much appreciated. After all privacy and verification of authenticity... that is total bullshit right? I mean the big brother NSA will just become mad... eh?

Great! how did you find out about that? man apt-clone did work? I thought via apt-file search sources.list it would tell me the package that does have sources.list.apt-clone. But since as you explained the file seems to be created dynamically and is not a part of the deb, it was not found. Anyhow thanks a lot! great answer

I have the same problem. It is crazy in the today-current(5th sept 2013) sudo apt-get update-ed packages lists that are in /var/lib/apt/lists/ there is only a mention of libcairo2 version: 1.10.2-6.1ubuntu2. Anyway I cannot even find how the 1.10.2-6.1ubuntu3 version commes up. It is here shown that the later version is an update. Still I cannot find it in any lists. In essence the 1.10.2-6.1ubuntu2 version should be working.

comment Differences of: SoftwareCenter history, dpkg-query and /var/log/dpkg.log.*?
Thank you for confirming most of my initial thoughts. I'm grateful you checked the mans (I tried that already myself prior to asking here) about the location of record/bookkeeping regarding the time/date of installation / removal of packages. Then it seems its only in the /var/log/dpkg.log.* files. That is fine I guess. Just a pitty if they ever get lost
