comment My soundcard (SiS 7012) isn't configured by default — how to make it work?
"Kernel driver in use: snd_intel8x0" means that the driver is loaded, and attached to the device. Your problem (whatever it is) has some other reason.

comment MUltiple USB audio sound cards ALSA programming
Why are you using a loopback program when you want only to play? Do you want to play the same or different data on each card?

comment looking to show the numeric value in frequency in hertz when a midi note is played
So by "show the frequency" you don't mean a numeric value, but a bar graph?

comment looking to show the numeric value in frequency in hertz when a midi note is played
It is easy to compute the frequency from a MIDI note number, but there is no software that display this in real time because that value is usually not useful for humans. What do you need it for?

comment Output sound is being piped into input sound
These mixer controls look OK. It's possible that the "Auto-Mute Mode" makes problems, or that your hardware makes this connection.

Nobody here knows what hardware you have, or how its mixer controls are labelled.

I guess you didn't explicitly enable loopback in PulseAudio? Run alsamixer, and look at the controls of the hardware device.

comment midi controller issue; unable to enumerate usb devices during boot
It is not entirely clear which combinations of port/cable/device you have tested, but if I understand your description correctly, it points to a hardware defect in your USB/MIDI interface.

"PCM" and "Master" controls are OK. However, try disabling "Auto-Mute Mode".

comment No sound at all in Ubuntu 14.04
Is the front HP port connected to the motherboard or the sound card, and which output is selected in PulseAudio? At the moment, the DGX is indeed configured to output to its front HP connector (control "Analog Output" in the mixer).

comment FATAL: Module usb-snd-audio not found
You should fine the module in /lib/modules/(VERSION)/kernel/sound/usb/. (And the title and the text of your question use different names; check the spelling.)
