Ubuntu 12.10 on Intel Atom tablet You need to provide more information about your hardware if you need help. Also, I do not think this is the right place to ask, as the question is not specific enough to merit a place in askubuntu.com. In general, Windows 8 tablets have several restrictions, both hardware and software-based, including possibly a non-standard BIOS/UEFI, secure bootloader requirements and could have nonstandard hardware for which Ubuntu does not (yet) have drivers. I'm sure sooner or later there will be ways to run Linux on those machines, but -- again -- any solutions will probably focus on specific devices. |

Slow/lagged desktop effects with Nvidia card This is a problem with unity, not the proprietary nvidia drivers. nouveau is vastly inferior to the nvidia drivers; suggesting their replacement just because Canonical fails to provide a window manager capable of working properly under the proprietary drivers (or chooses to do so, just to make a point), is not really an answer to the problem, unless you are willing to consider removing Unity and replacing it with another DE as an equally useful 'solution'. |

Is it possible to run Windows 8 apps in Ubuntu? That is correct BoltClock. Metro apps can be written in several CLR-supported languages including C++ and Visual Basic, using XAML. In reality, as Microsoft plans to leverage its existing developer-base, the majority of Metro apps --- those not written in HTML/Javascript that is --- are most probably going to be written in C#/XAML. In any case, the support of CLR-languages does not change the fact that Metro apps won't be a possibilty in Ubuntu (or any linux distribution) in the foreseeable future. |
