just incase you missed reboot; after rfkill, you may have to reboot the system.

comment Graphical Traceroute with Map from Repository
I needed mtr to work with CLI, but in my case mtr command was by default spawning GTK version. So, i removed mtr and installed mtr-tiny, my purpose of using CLI with mtr served with package mtr-tiny :) thank you for the clarification between mtr-tiny and GTK version.

comment Unknown display besides laptop Built-in display. Old question but with no answers
Same NVIDIA issue. :( For me, it's named VGA-1-2. Above solution didn't work out of the box due to uncertain reason, so here is what additional things I performed to disable that 'Unknown Display' in Ubuntu GNOME 14.04. Removed entries respected to`VGA-1-2` from config file ~/.config/monitors.xml and executed below command to disable all VGA as I don't use any VGA. echo xrandr --output vga --off >> ~/.xinitrc and finally sudo reboot :)

comment Revert from Gnome 3 to Unity
Yes, it worked for me in past when I had similar issue. ubuntu-desktop is unity and ubuntu-gnome-desktop is gnome. It is straight. you may remove gnome first and install unity then after to be in safer side, you may do this into Ctrl+Alt+F1 (console mode).

Most commonly traffic to random IP happens with P2P, do you use any service like Torrent, Bitcoin, TOR or something? Even tunneling through VPN connection gets skipped and such P2P services start connecting directly to hosts in some cases. Collaborating information via tools such as wieshark/tshark, nmap, netstat, whois, dig, lsof, tcpdump would help you gather more information. Give it a try.

comment Will installing GNOME Shell affect Unity?
No, installing gnome3 won't remove unity. You can switch between two even after installation. So, give it a try. :D
