There are no personal problems that can't be overcome with the liberal application of high explosives

No idea, but look at the answer below because (the other) Steve has done a great job of explaining what this one actually does - you should be able to reverse engineer the effects from there. Why are you undoing it? Its been a great solution for me and has worked perfectly for me for over 6 months...

comment How to enable nameserver via VPN
The issue is that in 12.04, Ubuntu released (as I understand it) Network Manager and Resolveconf on a previously happy world - and it doesn't seem to add the DNS addresses correctly regardless of pushing them across. I'm having the same problem as Kalmar - I have the tunnel working fine, but unless I manually hack resolv.conf and put the DNS server for the network at the other end of the tunnel above the localhost entry I just can't resolve anything on the far end of the tunnel. Ubuntu used to be such a good OS... what happened?

comment Permanantly set monitor as primary
Would it kill them to have a tick box rather than assume people will see that little black bar and then try moving it? I was scratching my head for ages until I read your post... thanks.

comment No sound after resuming from suspend?
This one worked for me as well... Googling lead me down a lot of different and futile paths with this issue, and while nothing I've read yet suggests a fix (although I would love one if anyone can suggest something permanent), this at least saves me a reboot. Thanks : )

comment Maximize window button is missing on all programs
I agree with @chazdg. This is the second time Ubuntu has made a strange decision to change the expected behaviour of their window controls. First they moved everything to the left and mucked up the order, causing mass hysteria... now they've decided we neither need to minimise or maximise, nor do we need to have a simple menu option to turn them on should we decide we want them. Why do we need to hack the interface to get things right again? Was there good justification for this, or like the move to the left was it simply an arrogant change with no right of reply by someone at Canonical?
