@snorp It's a good lead for sure, but we're absolutely panicing. Well, if you'd consider a kernel General Protection Fault a panic. I see it in the console every time.

Thanks @ostendali, I figured you might be onto something with the MTU. I dropped it down to 4096 and I've since had two more General Protection Faults. However, I've continued to have General Protection Faults, and am continuing to see ifquery crash. I'm setting the MTU to 4096 in if-up.d/ and have verified that the change is applied correctly. I can't get an ifquery coredump for some reason either... no .crash or core files anywhere and I've set root's core limit to unlimited in limits.conf.

Nope, everything's standard. Just checked my current MTU for eth0 and it's MTU:9001. I have made no networking changes at all since the original 15.04 base AMI, or any other kernel tweaks for that matter. Well, that's not completely true, we set net.ipv4.tcp_tw_recycle = 1 in sysctl.conf but everything else is 100% standard.

I have now installed kdump per help.ubuntu.com/stable/serverguide/kernel-crash-dump.html on 4/10 machines, so hopefully I can get a meaningful crash report today.

comment Ubuntu 15.10 crashing randomly
You should post the error about the kernel. Take a look at /var/log/kern.log as well.
