comment Incorrect NFS mount entries in Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS?
Please check the /etc/exports file on the NFS server. Sometimes a share is exported with additional slash which breaks the mount on client-side.

comment Command-line torrent client that supports multi-tracker extension the way uTorrent does it
Does it support multi-tracker extension the way the utorrent does? That is, announcing to multiple trackers at a time?

I had that problem many times, especially with long tracker lists. An I don't want to manually shuffle the list to search for good peers - I want that performed by the program.

No, that's not happening. If the first in the list is a tracker abroad, I'm having slow peers. If the second is local or nearby, I'd have fast peers, but the second tracker is never polled since the first is alive.

@Lekensteyn: Would you please provide at least a short answer, so I can accept it for my question.

What's the purpose of caching DNS info and make it available for 127.0.0.1 only?

Assigning IP addresses is the role of DHCP server, not DNS server. This instance of dnsmasq doesn't play a role of DHCP server, since there's no subnet specification in the configuration file. Moreover, no requests from other machines can arrive from 127.0.0.1 which is the interface this instance is listening on.

Four partitions is not the maximum on the hard drive. There is a mechanism called logical partitions which allows you to have almost any number of partitions.

comment Loud pop on shutdown/reboot
In my case, clicking doesn't occur when shutting down Windows, only when shutting down Ubuntu. Of course, the cause of the click is physical - capacitor or spark, but the pre-cause is possible the disgraceful shutting down of the sound card.

All 1-4 agreed. As for 5: since Unity and since gnome2 is no more, I prefer using xfce/lxde.

Problem is that /etc/papersize works only for those programs that use libpaper or read and honor it. For example, OpenOffice ignores this file. Also, gnome-language-selector is only relevant to gnome environment.

That kind of installation compromises the package management state. There is a package "compat-wireless-...", install it using the package manager instead.

There's a tweak in xorg.conf for nvidia drivers that forces the detection of an absent monitor as if was plugged in. The exact tweak is described in readme file which is distributed along with the nvidia driver.

Obviously, there's no universal answer to your question. Typical sequence is to look thru the devices list as LnxSlck pointed out, then to find the unclaimed ethernet device, discover it's PCI Vendor IDs and google them.

Do sudo watch -n 1 -d iptables -nvL then try to reach the internet from your client machine while watching the counters. Do they show FORWARD rule increasing?

Also, your gateway address equals to the interface address itself.

You've got damn lots of misprints in your configuration files. First, default configuration file for dhcp is /etc/default/dhcp-server. Second, network configuration file is /etc/network/interfaces. Third, gateway specification keyword is gateway.
