Note that you may want to make a second question involving what's wrong with your logrotate.conf as apache should be configured to close files when logration occurs etc. I say this because the reboot fixes the problem now but unless I'm missing something, your issue should recur periodically and having to reboot ever week is sadnessmaking. [I'd suggest if it does recurring, seeing if service httpd restart (or reload) again temporarily alleviates the issue

Good answers for working around this; you might also want to check if TMOUT is set (do echo $TMOUT; if it comes back non-empty, that might be why your terminal is closing overnight)

Note that when you log in using your password, you're using your password for the sudo step, not for the nobody account (and that the reason it works is because the superuser can su to anyone without needing to enter their password (although as mentioned below, I believe at least on RH-derivatives, if nobody's shell is set to /sbin/nologin, you still wouldn't be able to log in even using superuser (aka root)
