Thanks for the answer! I've added another sub-question above, also regarding the PVR system, does this mean using MythTV you could record anything being broadcast on your TV as long as MythTV can connect to the TV via wireless/wired connection?

Open up a terminal window (Ctrl + Alt + T ) and type in: lspci to check if your laptop can detect your wireless hardware, you'll have a line like: 02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02) (I'm using the same HP as you so should be roughly the same) that way you'll be able to know if its a hardware detection issue or software-related.
