You have plenty of time, because there is no LTS release currently nearing end-of-life. 10.04 expired in April last year, and 12.04 doesn't expire until April 2017.

That may fail if there are a very large number of files matching *..txt, so that the glob expansion exceeds the maximum command length (which is often 261,144 characters). A solution like the one from @Maythux using for ...; do ...; done will be more bulletproof.
