comment How to create local repository using apt-mirror and mirrorkit for selected architecture, release, spin
"you can use apt-mirror as you normally would" I am sorry, I don't know how to do that. This is exactly what I would like to be explained.

Exclude the Kubuntu and Xubuntu ISOs, for example. Perhaps there are an awful lot of them (Precise Kubuntu ARM, Precise Kubuntu i386, Quantal Kubuntu ARM, Quantal Kubuntu i386...) and the initial mirror download could be finished more rapidly without those ISOs. But if it is only a few more Gigabytes, perhaps it doesn't matter so much.

comment Create local copy of Ubuntu remote repository
Doesn't your method back up every version of Ubuntu, including distant past ones? How do use rsync to backup selected areas of the repositories, such as only Trusty (and its updates), and/or only AMD64 archictecture? For example, all Lubuntu amd64 Trusty packages and updates.

comment Problem with sudo apt-get
@NGRhodes - I didn't know that about Debian. If there is a conflict during an upgrade, apt-get gives up and says it cannot proceed; aptitude offers potential solutions to the installation/upgrade. unix.stackexchange.com/questions/767/…

comment Enable disk encryption after installation
/home disk encryption does not include swap space. Sensitive data may be written to unencrypted swap, if only /home is encrypted. This can be recovered. Ubuntu has automatic decryption of /home during logon. Full disk encryption needs a password at both boot and login. Resizing an encrypted drive is a painstaking process. If you have an external drive, it is easy to encrypt after installation in 13.10 Saucy Salamander: back up your data, launch "disks" from the dashboard, select your external drive, click on the cog, select encrypt, unlock your newly encrypted drive, copy back the data.

comment Why do PPAs get errors after an upgrade?
y-ppa-manager is a great package to speed adding/removing PPAs. You don't need to update apt after adding a PPA this way: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/y-ppa-manager
