comment vim NERDTree | Auto fresh the directory pane
To automate calling refreshRoot() so it always works, without depending on :scriptnames output, I think the best thing would be to edit the NERDTree source to expose that function as a command :NERDTreeRefreshRoot. If that command works for you, you could then request that your changes be merged into the main NERDTree.

Refreshing “automatically” could mean when the file system fires a change event, or every X seconds, or whenever you re-focus Vim after having used a different application to edit files. Vim doesn’t directly support the first two events, but the last one is the autocommand FocusGained.

comment How to compile a python file?
If you are compiling because you want speed, you can also add the -O flag, like python -O -m py_compile …, which will “turn on basic optimizations”. It mainly strips out assert statements and if __debug__ code, so for most code it has no effect. See man python and “What does Python optimization … do?” for details.

comment How do I install and get started with vim/vi?
Note that only the first three levels of VIM Adventures are free. To learn more than some basics (the keys hjkl, bew, x, and B) from the game, it costs $25. Though it might be helpful to learn those basics using the game and then continue to a different tutorial (like vimtutor) when the game shows the paywall.

comment How to print standard error in red
You can enable this behavior for one command using the hilite utility. You have to manually prepend hilite to your shell command to use it, but it’s still useful if you know or suspect that a command outputs errors and you want to locate them.

comment How can i change my maximum resolution on ubuntu 11.10?
See also Ubuntu Wiki – X/Config/Resolution – “Adding undetected resolutions”. Those steps explain how to construct most of the command you posted. Two other sections on that page are also relevant: “Dynamically testing different resolutions” tells you how to test and apply your changes, and “Setting xrandr changes persistently” explains alternatives to creating an alias in your .bashrc file.
