@Izzy : its a different question altogether! the things didn't work out the way they were suggested, I installed 12.04 in a different drive and I am just wondering if I can change permissions of the older installations.

I tried to create mount point, but I got an error which read mount point mnt/mydisk does not exists is mydisk to be replaced with some thing and just for the record i wrote mount /dev/sda /mnt/mydisk from root@Ubuntu:/dev#

yes I did that, actually that was my first try. The thing is, windows CD cannot find the HDD on my Laptop, and i guess that is because I have changed the type to "ext 2" while installing Ubuntu, but I did not make all the partitions "ext 2" type.

Hi, I tried doing that, but "bootrec /fixboot" does not work It gives an error message. Is there another way around??
