Musician, the Netherlands

Started with Mac, switched to Windows and finally ended up with Ubuntu, just before Unity was introduced (must have been somewhere in 2011).

Absolutely. The nicest would be to toggle; make a script read from xrandr what is the current rotation of the second screen, set it to "the other option" under a shortcut key.

Is your question mainly on how to script it, or how to do it with xrandr? In the last case, you will find it here: askubuntu.com/a/171154/72216, but it can be made changeable / toggle with a key combination of course, but then the scripting is actually the question.

comment Slow performance on Ubuntu
No offence, but practically all of us are extremely happy with Ubuntu. If your system is running slow, there must be a reason for that, but you are making clear you are not interested in finding out. Again no offence, but why then do you think we should know your opinion if we are happy with Ubuntu, and you are not and don't want a solution?

@Fabby Yeah, I know it's a tradition :( but hey, we don't suffer alone :) and let's not forget many people are very constructive as well. I'll remove the whole list tonight if I don't hear any more.

I am not sure what kind of answer you are looking for: how or why. The last one would be a quite (too?) extensive answer, and include history etc. What it is is probably done easier then why.

As a temporary bandage you could copy the .desktop file to ~/.local/share/applications (hidden by default, press ctrl -h to make visible), change the command (right click on it -> properties) from simple-scan into sudo simple-scan, add simple-scan to the sudoers file, but it should be a temporary thing and it is dreadfully ugly.

Nono, that is correct, I found something with Brother scanners here: wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Trusty_Tahr and here: superuser.com/questions/298298/… Where did you get the scanner software?

I don't want to bother you with unnecessary complications, but then there is really something wrong in your configuration. A simplescan starter (desktop file) exists in /usr/share/applications, which should normally be used as a starter. You can lock it to the launcher on the left to simply click, to start simple scan. The command in there is without sudo (and so it should). From what kind of account are you working (adm, guest?) and how did you install simplescan? Also: what is the message (in terminal) when you run it without sudo?

next question: what is the command? a launcher of simplescan should already exist.

comment How to make a Desktop Launcher with Sudo for a Scanner
That should not need sudo; a terminal command is not the same as sudo :) A launcher is very easy to do, and only takes a few lines. Does the command run without sudo? (again: it must be)
