comment wireless bcm4318 not working
@PeterMasiar Hi, for the down vote I guess someone takes down voting to serious. I have upvoted you since this type of question do not deserve a downvote. For the correct installation, you are saying you did #2 which is "firmware-b43-installer", is this correct? I would also ask if you edited any config files previous to installing this specific driver or in general have a 100% clean ubuntu install before proceeding to install the driver mentioned, this is because some installations leave config files behind that may affect how other similar drivers work.

I recommend in the meantime to follow the bug report and report the error you are getting there while this driver is worked one. For what I can see, you have several options apart from the one you are doing. You can also follow up on the comments in the Wirama site.

comment Ubuntu unusably slow on Acer Aspire One
Hi brentonstrine, I was going to answer but thi is actually a question similar to the one xangua mentions about Ubuntu on low end hardware. For an Atom processor with 2 GB I highly recommend Lubuntu, followed by Xubuntu as the duplicate question points out in the answer by fossfreedom.

In your case you probably have the BCM4318. Please use the duplicate question marked since it solves almost all models for the Broadcom. BTW updating to 14.04 will have less issues than 12.04.

comment EFI Dual Boot Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 14.04
Please read this completely: askubuntu.com/questions/221835/… I followed the forum posts and there are several issues already answered in this link, including yours. Remember to do the steps in order. I will not mark this as duplicate because you are in a place where you can either start from the beginning by installing Ubuntu again (Which would mark this as duplicate) or try to solve this specific problem.

Did you already read askubuntu.com/questions/221835/… and try everything there. There is an order in which you need to do it.

comment how to allocate the unallocated space of windows partition
Yes, you can see from gparted that it has 100MB, which is a reserved partition for the boot part of Windows 7. I have updated my answer to include the steps to remove Windows 7 and be able to boot from Ubuntu.

comment how to allocate the unallocated space of windows partition
From what I can see, sda1 (The boot partition) is still active and holds the Windows 7 boot part. This is why it still shows in the grub menu. I would recommend deleting that one but since it is the boot one, you would need to 1. Delete the sda1 partition and set the sda5 as boot with the boot flag parameter. 2. Boot from a Live CD and run boot repair. This will make sure you boot from your Linux partition AND remove windows 7 from the boot list.

Yes but the Ubuntu version is not working correctly for many users. The user needs to download the Linux version and run it from the terminal. It is missing many needed features and it has problems on Ubuntu as mentioned in github.com/sialan-labs/sigram/issues/33 This was actually one that I wanted to add to the list but with so many problems for end user I would end up scaring them. In any case +1 because of mentioning it

comment Problems recovering Ubuntu OR Reinstalling Ubuntu alongside Win8
Remember that installing Ubuntu alongside Windows is not the same as upgrading Windows. The former will try to create a boot loader for both systems (Assuming UEFI is enabled). The latter will try to create a boot loader for both systems using the Windows equivalent. In both cases as you can see and on the latter as you have it right now, bring many problems that could arise, some very random. So while there is work to do to stop Microsoft's sabotage on other systems with EFI, all we can do right now is solve issues like this that might or might not have nothing to do with each other.

You can not install Ubuntu with Wubi if you have Windows 8 Pre-installed. Please read the provided duplicate question or do exactly what @Wilf mentions in his answer below.

The solution provided here is the same as the general wine answer which covers this and much more. If it worked for you i am very glad but there are several showstoppers that could happen. Good thing everything went ok with you.
