comment New Win 8.1 can't share files to Ubuntu 13.10
I will leave it open, but then I ask do you have an NTFS file system and can another computer open a shared folder on the windows PC (Specially a Windows XP or 7 one)? Because every time I get this problem is the whole crazy "security features" found on 7 and 8 that create the problem. Here is a link to the option I would like to see if you can check it out: infotechguyz.com/windows8/windows8firewall1.jpg in the Advanced Settings you will get a long list of options, many of which you need to disable in order for other computers to get into the share folders without problem (Like XP)

Hi dartdog, for what I can see, you are suffering from the security system Windows Vista and Above have brought. Your problem is related to how Windows 8 handles permissions. I suggest the question which is marked as duplicate and askubuntu.com/questions/424722/… both of which will give you an idea where to search in the Windows firewall and security settings. Your SAMBA conf is probably perfect, but Windows 8 will not let you in because of internal security permissions with it.

comment How to enable or disable services?
@EvanCarroll Thanks for the heads up but for 14.04, they will still use Upstart, so this answer will still apply at least for the next 6 months (which would include all Ubuntu version up to October 2014). The rest of your comment is a bit insulting don't you think?

comment Installation problems - wine1.4 on Ubuntu 13.10
I would really recommend using an updated Wine version so you don't get SO MANY problems that are found in 1.4. Please see askubuntu.com/questions/316025/installing-and-configuring-wine/… for the most complete guide.

@mardy Some of them did not have the information very easy to find. All the open source ones are hosted on GitHub.

@YannDìnendal Thanks. Fixed it. Luis That would be better if the user tested that in their country. Several of them do not provide such information.

Hi Zeb, you can also find information about WWW in askubuntu.com/questions/20105/… (Apart from the marked duplicate question).

comment How to install Hadoop?
As things have been going with JuJu, I would even recommend making coffee with it. I added at the bottom of the answer a link for you. In that site you can setup any JuJu Charm and see how each file is configured and how each service talks to each other apart from many other data that the site will help you deploy and setup.

comment Does the Replace Windows X with Ubuntu option in the installation setup replace a single partition or the whole drive
Hi @Takkat, on Case one Hard Drive, are you talking about the option for "Replacing Windows for Ubuntu". If so can you clarify this, since this is more oriented towards new users with no experience yet about the installer.

The option does not say anywhere "Format the Entire Drive". It says it will replace Windows for Ubuntu and delete all documents, photos, etc..

@ElliottFrisch You are missing the point. The question is in regards to formatting 1 partition versus a whole drive. The case applies for users with only one physical drive but they only want to replace C: (where windows is typically found) and leave D:, E:.. untouched since they normally are the backup.
