comment 14.10 System turn off display and don't response
Can you check the comment by Bulrush and also explain exactly at what point of the boot stage does the display turn off? Is it before the grub menu, when the BIOS appears, after grub menu, when lightdm is starting, when the desktop appears? For the freezing part, I would recommend booting a LiveUSB and from the ubuntu menu select memtest just in case.

Did you try recovery mode, changing boot options on the grub menu like noacpi. Did you try anything already?

comment Wifi not working - Ubuntu 12.04/14.04 LTS - Realtek 802.11d RTL8192EE
Hi travisb, is it possible for you to upgrade to 14.04 or even 14.10. This way we can help you better since 13.10 is officially not supported. You can see which versions are still supported in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…

comment how do I set up network interfaces with Virtualbox
Please add version of VirtualBox. It really affects if you are using an older version since each update receives many network updates and fixes. For example, for me with the latest 4.3.18 using as host Windows 7 and Ubuntu 14.04, it is working correctly.

Works. Thanks Marawan. I would remove the sudo from the first line since that folder is owned by the actual user.

comment How to find and change the screen DPI?
@FuzzyToothpaste that is why I said "helps a bit". That bit is that, when you lower the scale, apart from changing the menu, title bar and launcher icons, the actuall size of the windows, because of the change, will be smaller. So it helps a bit if you have for example a 1280x720 resolution (like a laptop) and you want to fit the windows inside that 720. Lowering the scale to 0.8 or less will "feel" like you are using 1080 instead of 720. This of course is with Non Hi-DPI like the apple products. I guess the effect would be bigger on those type of hardware.

comment ASUS Z87 Pro Bluetooth not finding other devices with 13.10
@PJSingh I personally tested 3.14, 3.15, 3.16 and 3.17. It works starting with 3.14 and even though it does not appear in kernelnewbies.org/Linux_3.14-DriversArch it works correctly. Tested with the Samsung HD1200, Samsung S4 and Samsung S4 Mini. Also just noticed right now I tested everything with Samsung.

@PJSingh Using a newer kernel or waiting for 14.10 will solve it. Right Now I am using 14.04 with kernel 3.17 and 14.10. give me a moment to paste an image for the BT working.

Can you add to the global section the force option for testing. eg: force = joshua. And then restart the smbd service to test. Also, if you want them to "see" the networkshare resource, remove the ; in front of the browseable option. Let me know if it goes well.

comment Diagnosing Samba
Thanks Fox, what about the smb.conf, for the look of smbtree, there are only 2 computers on the workgroup "workgroup" and one of them is sharing 5 things (well 3 things actually) and the other is not. What version of ubuntu are you using (I am guessing Xubuntu because of Thunar), what else have you tried. The more information you provide the easier is to answer.

There is more information needed before providing a correct answer. Like how the samba was configured in general, what's the output of smbtree, permissions and more.

@FuzzyToothpaste true that. Forgot about that and the part that the libraries are only for that specific app.

comment Unable to upgrade to 14.04
Pretty sure this is a stuck key because of old keyboard (Either laptop, desktop or a cat is sitting on the keyboard right now). Apart from that, what do you mean with "unable to execute the file". Did you download the ISO and burn it on a DVD or USB? or are you trying to execute an ISO like an EXE?
