comment Why disable Fast Boot on Windows 8 when having dual booting?
Hi lombass, correct hibernation should not touch any other files or areas of the hdd but the "new" is not the normal hibernation, it actually freezes the state of the hdd. I tried (when I tested this) to copy files to c:, program files, document settings and even created a folder in c:. No luck, all disappeared after rebooting through windows.

comment How can I know how long `dd` cloning will take?
@nux Hi friend and thanks for the comment. In this case, it is coming directly from the man page. Just in case, for DD, when it receives the dummy USR1, it behaves like a more verbose log, so it outputs the last line mentioned in the example.

comment Installing Ubuntu on a Pre-Installed Windows with UEFI
You could, if it is used as an efi partition (fat32) make sure that when installing ubuntu, select manual partitioning and selecting that partition and setting it as the /boot/efi one. In my case, I told ubuntu to actually make the efi partition even if Windows already had one.

comment Installing Ubuntu on a Pre-Installed Windows with UEFI
@KhurshidAlam Hi friend, for this case I normally create an additional third partition for the efi partition. So it would be one partition for efi, one for root and one for swap. The efi partition only needs about 100 MB, the rest is the size you want. Am probably going to make a youtube video about this for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

comment How to connect and disconnect to a network manually in terminal?
@PHPLearner Did you verify that the .conf file had the proper syntax. Typically that error means that the .conf file had something not correctly written in it.

comment Can I use Ubuntu to diagnose hard drive or RAM problems in Windows?
@Hellreaver For those cases, I would use the actual tools provided by the manufacturer (eg: Seagate Tools, Maxtor Tools, Quantum Tools, etc..) Since they would have their own way of checking this in most cases.

comment How to fix “The system is running in low-graphics mode” error?
@user281989 Excellent feedback and true. It can give the wrong driver. The same issues happens if we install bumblebee. on both cases it depends on the Ubuntu version, arch and nvidia driver. Thank you for your feedback. +1

comment Installing Broadcom Wireless Drivers
@Freddy Please test with the firmware-b43-installer and give us your feedback on this test. Since you might be a very rare case, it would be super important for us to know how it went while testing this driver. Did it work?, did it not?, what problems did you find. How did the wireless card behave. Feel free to write to luisalvarado@ubuntu.com with your feedback and thank you for testing and contributing.

comment Installing Broadcom Wireless Drivers
@Pilot6 just to clarify a point, it is a community answer (not just mine) since am not creating it for me but for everyone. Second, if you tested 4312 and also got it working, if you could provide the hardware you used and wireless model it would help even more, since this is the stuff we are trying to avoid (confusion between broadcom users).

comment Installing Broadcom Wireless Drivers
@Pilot6 Thank you for the help buddy but I had to do a rollback on your changes because following the "guidelines" of Broadcom is what caused the whole Broadcom issue to begin with. Their document at broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta/README_6.30.223.248.txt is wrong/confusing in several cases. If it were up to them ALL drivers would be bcmwl-kernel-source, but this is far from the truth. I also went ahead and tested 4311 and 4312 using the bcmwl. Both failed. Then I used the ones tested on this list and both worked.

Thank you @SteveD, let me update the answer to add the information needed for your question but overall it is a NO. There is basically no need for anything after 15.04 ^^.

@CarlH Thank you friend, yes I forgot to add a note there. I had previously added a set of tests I did including Lenovo with 15.04 and on all cases it was detected correctly, installed alongside without any problems and I feel starting with 15.04 the whole UEFI booting issues + the fact that there is a strong momentum in favor of UEFI changes in pro of Linux, we will have issues like this eliminated for good.
