OK, so what happens if you set PS1 to something rather simpler? Say something like \u@\h: \w\a\ or just zzzzzzzzzzzzz> (just to keep it long).

One question - how big is the drive? There can be issues with drives >2.1TB. Other than that, the fstab entry looks ok & ext4 is fine so nothing there. That's why I kind of assume it must be a permissions issue.
