comment how to reinstall config files in /etc of a package
@muru: That link is what I searched for, thanks. :) Moving them out-of-place is also not what I want (it might make the system unusable for important files in /etc). I want them to be replaced directly. Would --force-confnew and --overwrite-conffiles do what I want?
comment get list of modified configs
Btw., who downvotes this? It would have been helpful to find such question at the top of Google results. Thanks anyway muru, that was very helpful.
comment how to fix-up system with old configs
@davidbaumann: That are separate questions, and also separate problems, which might not be related. If you think they are related and I should do some things in the answers of other question, then say so, that would really help me.
comment How can i open SDM.pkg and .sdx files on Ubuntu?
Note: If you don't install IE6, nor use WINEARCH=win32, it installs fine and also seems to run fine, but the actual download never starts, it keeps staying at 0%.
comment Running a .desktop file in the terminal
This didn't worked for me. It seems any paths are double quoted. The script by Carlo worked.
comment Can't install wine (or ia32-libs) in Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit
apt-get update after that and it worked! I had done the same: Installed Ubuntu 64bit via debootstrap.
comment where are the ubuntu-desktop settings?
@JorgeCastro: Are these really separate questions? I was expecting a single answer with a single tool which just provides all standard system settings (like the ones I listed).
comment Could not perform immediate configuration on 'util-linux'
@ObsessiveSSOℲ: It was still helpful, though, because of the -O APT::Immediate-Configure=0 option.
