comment What is the proper way to change the DNS IP?
+1 Agreed if this is a problem that isn't likely to be resolved soon best to fix it on the router then it will be fixed for all machines on the network. I find its best to either use Google DNS or OpenDNS.

comment How to harden an SSH server?
+1 Using limit can be good. However should point out I have encountered issues when using the built in sftp server as it limits the connections for this as well.

comment How to setup a machine to host my websites to the world - with my own url?
I have a similar connection 50MB down and 1.5Mb. I can't give you a precise figure on how much it can handle, I have run test websites on it but that has only ever been for 1 or 2 people to look at. Hosting a bigger site would really depends on your site, the number of simultaneous users on it and what else your using the connection for at the time.

@Marcel I had noticed that as well. First thing I did when I wanted to check it out was an apt-cache search and thats the only thing that pops up in relation.

I missed that bit was looking at the Download page where there is a big Kernel patch you need to apply to get it to work. ext3cow.com/Download.html Looking at the alternatives on that page, some of them look interesting like Btrfs.

comment Is aptitude still considered superior to apt-get?
+1 Agreed being able to see if an application is installed while searching is very handy. Although I do find that apt-cache search is a lot faster than aptitude search.

comment How can I run Ubuntu inside Windows 7?
+1 for virtualbox. Its free and in my experience works better under ubuntu than Wmware. Also virtualbox is used by the TestDrive project for used for testing latest Ubuntu development snapshots so its support under Ubuntu is better than Vmware.
