comment How can I get two-finger scrolling working on my trackpad?
If you read my question you'll see that my xinput output isn't Elantech (like it should be), it's PS/2 Mouse. Also if you see the comments on the question, installing the 3.18 kernel doesn't help--the trackpad still gets recognized as PS/2 Mouse. Since my trackpad is getting recognized as a mouse (and a very old one at that), my System Settings doesn't have options that relate to touchpads, since it thinks I have a PS/2 Mouse.

That question doesn't really help. It suggests installing the 3.18 kernel, which isn't an easy task. I installed that kernel, and nothing has changed--it's still getting recognized by Ubuntu as a PS/2 Mouse.

comment How can I get Firefox to recognize multitouch gestures on a touch screen?
This doesn't work for me--dragging my finger across the page still doesn't move the page like it does in Chromium, it still selects text. Pinching and zooming also just select text. So the problem seems to be that Firefox just isn't recognizing touch screen events as touch events--it's seeing them as mouse events, maybe?

I'm guessing you mean /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d. Commenting out the lines above, and adding the file as described caused my pointer to disappear entirely and the trackpad to become non-functional.

I don't have an /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d directory or a 10-evdev.conf.

@Whaaaaaat, I see the same problems with Firefox on Fedora running GNOME 3.14, which has the best multitouch capability I've seen yet, so I don't think it's Ubuntu that has the problem.

comment How can I map the Apple Magic Mouse two-finger swipe to a web browser's back and forward functions?
If you read the other replies in this thread, you'll see that what works for the Magic Trackpad definitely doesn't work for the Magic Mouse. They're very different devices.
