I prefer usually challenging questions, while I may spend some time on easier ones trying to explain something that used to be difficult for me. This is not the most rewarding way to get reputation points, but this is how I like to answer stack overflow and server fault questions, when possible.

My preference goes to algorithms, and C, a language that I've liked and known for a long time, while I like also to visit server fault and its many interesting and challenging system, DB, nginx, ... questions and answers.

Linux has been my working environment for almost 10 years. And a (few) Mac for leisure.

As of now, I never gave a negative rating. This is the best way I found to move away the temptation to abuse the down voting ability.

comment Ubuntu Hangs Suddenly (Dell Latitude E5530)
You should try to install the latest 12.04.2 64 bits (LTS) (note the .2) which seems to be fine on my E5530.

comment Alt-Tab does not switch
Better yet for gnome classic users: when log in, just ensure (click the foot icon) to start Gnome classic No effects. The no-effect version seems to have Alt-tab working.

comment Alt-Tab does not switch
@Matthew Finally got it to work: in ccsm > Ubuntu Unity Plugin > Switcher, ensure <Alt>Tab is set for "Key to start the switcher", then "Back", then click the checkbox (to get it checked) near Ubuntu Unity Plugin - after a few warnings and key conflicts resolution, that should work!

comment How to Boot with no splash screen
The recovery options is not the solution, but it helps to see the messages, so +1. For info, I fixed the initial problem thanks to ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11388915&postcount=18

comment How do I recover my applets / settings in the GNOME fallback session after a 11.10 upgrade?
Sorry but... move from where? Do you mean recreate one by one? This is what I want to avoid. Some applets may have been obsoleted - but I want to recover also all the icons / shortcuts which I created either manually or using the "Add to panel" option. Is there a tip like a cp .gnome?/something/files .newgnome?/somethingelse that would make these icons appear on the top panel, as it used to be the case in 10.04?

comment Ubuntu One sync seems frozen?
Never mind. Installed dropbox using the installer for Ubuntu. Install took 1 mn. Total sync took 20 mn.

comment How to update PlayOnLinux?
Thanks. There is a consistency problem on the design, imo, if the repo is not added, POL should not talk about an update (outside the repo from which it is installed). Anyway, this is a Linux problem...

comment How to update PlayOnLinux?
Thanks and +1 for the link, but this is what I'm trying to avoid. Such an installation will not benefit from the update system. POL is installed via Ubuntu Software center and I would like to find a way to get updates via apt-get update.

@Oli Ok. Well I wanted to find a solution on Ubuntu, as there are some working tools on Windows, and on the Mac.

comment Is there an official Ubuntu free technical support team?
Honestly I don't know if that works. But I'm a long time Ubuntu user, and can tell you that getting support or relevant answers to questions/issues from forums is / was a pain. I say was because it seems the Ubuntu site from S.E. that I discovered recently does a good job at allowing people to get answers to their questions.

comment Is Ubuntu 10.04's “Blank screen blinking with white stripes problem” resolved in ubuntu10.10?
In case it matters: due to the many problems of 10.04, Ubuntu released a 10.04.1 version later on. Since 10.04[.1] is LTS (Long Time Support), you may want to give this new version a try.
