comment Is Linux getting less or more secure?
@Shadur A quick wikipedia search seems to hint that there are roughly as many personal computers as webservers (1 billion of each). And webservers are high-value targets leading to the real cash too: steal e-mail lists, passwords lists, certificates, and then use these to attack desktops.

@Rinzwind Also, don't blame the users for the system's flaws: a centralized package manager has nothing to do with the level of education of its users. If anything, educated users are more likely to add non-standard repositories or compile software from source, effectively replicating the windows "download and install" vulnerability. And of course, both windows and linux educated users are more likely to be careful before installing untrusted software.

@Rinzwind Troubleshooting on linux frequently involves copy/pasting command lines from the internet, and running them with sudo. Not all users will take the time to learn and understand all of these commands before entering them... And even those who do still occasionally leave mistakes in their own commands.

comment After upgrade to 15.10 Wifi to a corporate network (WPA2) is not working anymore
@CeesBos Did you find the 2.3 version? I was only able to find the 2.1 version from the 15.04 repositories, it seems to work fine as well.

comment Install Ubuntu without making Windows license void
Uninstalling and reinstalling windows does not require a new licence, as long as you keep the serial number. But that doesn't mean you have to reinstall windows in this case.

comment Function keys on the apply keyboard with no root
(This should be an edit but I'm too late) I could find the keycodes for F1 and F2 by grepping "Brightness", F7 to F12 with "Audio", but I'm still clueless for F3 to F6.

If you found a (temporary) solution, would you mind posting it as an answer? Thanks!

comment Grub2 won't show any graphical menu
The question is about the cause of the problem, rather than its solution. However, I understand it's hard to investigate an autosolved problem, so I'll just accept the answer about how to debug grub, should the problem reappear.

comment Grub2 won't show any graphical menu
@Suhaib : As I said in my edit, I solved it by reinstalling grub. The problem didn't appear again, so I still don't know what was the cause. At the moment, I don't think this question is likely to help future visitors, including you, sorry.
