comment Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name?
For the very last step (creating sym-link in 14.04) I'd recommend sudo a2enconf fqdn though it should technically be the same.

comment How to make an Avermedia AverTV Volar Green HD work?
… or just moving on could work: I didn't skipped step 2 but got the error as stated above. Anyway I followed along with downloading firmware and rebooting ~> Everything works fine \^^/ Thank you very much for the detailed guide! <3

comment How to make an Avermedia AverTV Volar Green HD work?
In step 2 I used sudo checkinstall however installation of Debian package fails due an already present package (please find log message here: pastebin.com/w4AKVwcr). Is it possible to exclude offending package or shall I just wait for a repo update? :(

comment WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated. `apt-key update` doesn't work
I added a ppa from launchpad and this helped me to import their key (ubuntu's keyserver was fine!) to get rid of the 'not authenticated package' when installing. Not sure why this answer is downvoted ;_;

comment How to hide a(n) (NTFS) partition from ubuntu
So basically the second (untested) "fb" solution just uses fdisk to find device's identifier instead of first mounting it, running mount and unmounting again. => much faster :)
