Then why not mention this requirement in the question?

Doesn't recognise my microphone, no option to sound the tones so that I can tune by ear... Back to Flash web apps, I guess :P

Well, there's less than three months before our files on U1 get deleted. In this time, someone might develop an easy method to install a personal U1 server. If we get the source soon...

comment How can I type an em-dash (—)?
This is the most human method, thanks! You can set the compose key in settings—keyboard—shortcuts—typing. Right control is OK, as it doesn't clash with other modifiers.

np. Yes, I also like command-line access to such tasks :)

comment Where is the usage of Ubuntu cloud guest image on OpenStack documented?
OK, but I assume this is possible only once the image is downloaded. This is useful, but I was asking more about the documentation for the 12 or so images that are listed on the UEC site. I don't really want to download them all and reverse-engineer the information about them :)

comment How to run Ubuntu touch apps on Ubuntu desktop?
Thanks! That's a nice start. Not perfect yet, as it's a sandboxed environment, so no easy file access, I guess. But we'll get there one day, I'm sure :)

comment How to easily start a webserver in any folder?
Yes, you need one of the newer version. The version in the 13.10 repos if you do sudo apt-get install php5 is 5.5.3, so you should be OK.

smbfs has been replaced with cifs-utils, other than that the instructions work for me too.

That's right, I just did it this way - much more user-friendly.

comment Where is virtualenvwrapper.sh?
What about zsh users? Great, another package that behaves differently on each OS. I think a sudo apt-get purge virtualenvwrapper and sudo pip install virtualenvwrapper is in order.

comment How do I get help on apt-get's install subcommand?
Thanks, you are right. I am still perplexed as to why isn't this option listed under apt-get -h then or in the manpage synopsis. This way I really have to go reading through the whole manpage to find any options relevant to the install subcommand (luckily I roughly knew what this one was called, but new users might not).

comment How can I limit the size of my ~/.cache folder
Thanks for you help, Oli. Yes, I see what you mean - it's a trade-off between having a more responsive OS and saving disk space. I'll think about the methods you suggested and see which one suits me best - probably the last one, as it's a laptop and I want to minimise re-computing stuff to save battery.

comment How can I limit the size of my ~/.cache folder
If I understood you correctly - I mostly put my machine to sleep whenever I can and only do a clean shutdown when I know I won't use it for some time (or I did some upgrades).

comment How do I clear xmodmap settings?
Another very helpful option I discovered is setxkbmap -query to print out the current settings in xkb's format, which helped me to configure my Apple keyboard as desired from the terminal.

Ditto @Achim A. You just made a small mistake, as minimize follows close in other applications it should be: gconftool-2 --set /apps/metacity/general/button_layout --type string "close, minimize, maximize:"
