I've been using Ubuntu as my main system since 7.04 with a few short breaks using Windows or Fedora because of temporary hardware/software incompatibilities. I support FOSS projects like Ubuntu for a number of reasons but the biggest one is that the software works and it works well--often better than the non-free alternatives.

I'm no guru but in my travels I've learned a thing or two about using/debugging/fixing problems in Ubuntu which I'm always happy to share with the community. If it hadn't been for the help I've received from the Ubuntu community over the past few years I probably wouldn't have gotten past my first month of using it much less to where I am today!

comment How do I completely remove Ubuntu/Grub and replace it with the Windows 7 bootloader?
actually what what be most useful is if you could install (sudo apt-get install boot-info-script), run (sudo boot-info-script) and post the results (a file called results.txt in the directory you ran the command in) to paste.ubuntu.com

Well, if you are willing to use linux tools to fix the problem, start by posting the output of sudo fdisk -l this will give us an idea of what your partition table looks like.

There are ways to fix this using a combination of a Ubuntu liveCD and then your Windows boot media. However, seeing as how you say you "want a way to fix this through WINDOWS, not UBUNTU", I might suggest that askUbuntu is probably not the place to ask this question. You might try a Microsoft oriented help site.

comment My Dell Inspiron 1501 wont connect to any network (wireless or wired)
Regarding wireless not working, check to see if you've enabled the wireless drivers in Jockey (Alt-F2 / jockey-gtk / Enter). AS for the wired, check and make sure that your router is working, doesn't have MAC address filtering or anything funky enabled.

hmm, mine are 700 and owned by my user and group, but I don't see how that would make a difference.

comment Ubuntu 12.04 takes too long to boot
You can press <kbd>Esc</kbd> to drop from "the dots" to a screen that actually says what Ubuntu is doing as it is booting up. Doing so might give more information about exactly what is going wrong.

if you type ls -al is there a file called .trash-1000 in it? If not could you try making this file and see if that helps (touch /var/www/.trash-1000)?

comment I want to do a bridge between ubuntu and my ps3
@likewyise Are you sure you are using a crossover UTP cable? Also did you actually test this just now, or are you assuming that it is one of the many "values" you have been changing? Because frankly the answer to your mac address question is simple (create a bash script, set a cron job) but I highly doubt it will help you do what you want to do in the least.

comment Can I re-install my OS without affecting my previous data?
What do you mean by data? Your files and (most of) your configuration settings should all be in your home folder, backing that up should save all your data. Your installed applications is another matter, but I seem to remember there being a way to export the list of installed packages then use it to reinstall them in the new system.
