no ideas. I haven't had any issues with synapse ever since - but now I'm on 13.10 and zeitgeist and synapse have seen some changes in the last 2 years...

comment making “xwacom set” changes permanent
looks absolutely reasonable, however, does not work. The pen is calibrated in the guest account and at the log-in screen. As soon as I log in to my account, the cursor "jumps" away from the pen and is miscalibrated. I guess some config file must be loaded with my profile but I simply can't figure out where that file resides?

Thank you Curtis. This must have been the bug - resizing worked well with GParted 0.16.1. sda2 is now 8 gb but the encrypted swap sda5 is still 4GB. Any idea how to increase the cryptswap?

Thanks for that hint. I experimented with that. The problem is that once I do have up- or downloads going on, it will only report the one line with 'Current uploads'. I changed the grep statement to "grep -e 'Current uploads:' -e path" but then it mixes the up- and downloads up and I only get to see the initial part of the path. One could also add the -c option to get a count. I restated in my original question what I would like to have. Still, your answer was good, so +1 - but not exactly what I was looking for. Cheers!
