@user2532531 This question is for Ubuntu 10.04, which almost certainly is not what you're using. Also, if I remember correctly, I was using xubuntu, not straight ubuntu, although I didn't tag that into the ticket. At this point, I'm using xubuntu 12.04, and the above answer still applies to xubuntu 12.04

That depends on what you're using the computer for. Non-security updates either fix bugs or add new functionality. They will also occasionally introduce new bugs. If you're using the computer for something very specific that MUST always work (and is currently working), then skip the other updates. For general computing, I would say an update is more likely to help for more often than hinder.
